~ Drama ~
Channel 4 aims to showcase the most interesting new artists and arts film makers launching a new innovative Arts strand from the Autumn. Shackleton and Sunday will be the highlights of early 2002, major event drama with Britain’s foremost writing, directing and acting talent. The Drama department has commissioned a raft of new work for 2002, including the adaptation of Zadie Smith’s White Teeth, and Bodily Harm, written by Tony Grounds. Channel 4 Drama will tackle major contemporary themes including the Health Service. We are determined to add to our reputation for American long running drama series with similar UK originated drama. We have recommissioned Teachers, our first successful attempt to achieve this. We will also commission a second long running drama series, and make drama a more integral part of the schedule through the year in 2002. By 2003 we intend to have three long running original drama series on screen. The Channel aims to bring late night experimental drama back to the screen with the successor to Dogma, providing an opportunity for new writing and directing talent.
~ The Unloved ~
Liking On from the statement above on of channel 4's recent dramas, that has a kind of link to what we are wanting to portray in our own film is the Drama called "The Unloved" which is a powerful single drama about a young girl growing up in a children's home. Gives an honest and intimate child's-eye view of the care system in the Uk. In some ways it links, but our film has many differences, but without any new material on channel 4's drama, that dosent link to the layout and story we have, this was the best that came up.
Below is an image of the main character in the drama:
~ About a Girl ~As a girl relates stories about her ordinary teenage life, there is an uncomfortable sense of sadness underlying her easygoing tales. About A Girl was the winner of the Best Short Film BAFTA in 2001. I would say that his short film is as close to our own as possible, from what i have had a look at, it is set in manchester and it is a girl telling her story, and has many similarities to our own, not only is this good to get ideas for the film but i think i will use this film in my analisis of a short film.
Below is an image of the main character:

Next are another few similar films that i have come across mainly though Virgine media shots, below you will see all the informations about the film, sadley i could not get a hold of any inages from the short films so i have added a link in so that you can see what they look like and how they compare to our own film.

~ What is a Drama Genre? ~
What is the Drama genre. With a few examples of films from the 1980's & 90's
A drama film is a film genre that depends mostly on in-depth development of realistic characters dealing with emotional themes. Dramatic themes such as alcoholism, drug addiction, racial prejudice, racism, poverty, crime and corruption put the characters in conflict with themselves, others and society.
This film genre can be contrasted with an action film, which relies on fast-paced action and physical conflict but superficial character development. All film genres can include dramatic elements, but typically, films considered drama films focus mainly on the drama of the main issue.
In the 1980s, dramatic film put emphasis on highly emotional themes. Do the Right Thing (1989), Spike Lee's film, and The Color Purple (1985) were full character studies of African American culture and history. War dramas again played a big part as Platoon (1986) showed the horrors of Vietnam. Das Boot (1981) focused on the German viewpoint of World War II. Drama, with a science fiction edge was a theme when Steven Spielberg directed E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), and Ridley Scott directed Blade Runner (1982)
During the 1990s, Goodfellas (1990) took a gritty, hard-edged look at mob crime. The Shawshank Redemption (1994), which was set inside a prison, had strong themes of hope, as did the Holocaust-themed Schindler's List (1993). Dramas also took a turn with existentialist thrillers like, Fight Club (1999) and the tale of suburban angst American Beauty (1999). Race relationships were a theme in American History X (1998), and the AIDs epidemic and discrimination were the focus of Philadelphia (1993). Comedy-drama was featured with films like Jerry Maguire (1996) and Barton Fink (1991).
