Film Poster Research (By Kasey Swift)

This is england was a low budget film which was only shown in small, selected, cinemas and became popular after being aired on film four. As it is a low budget film I thought that this film poster would be good to look at to help create our own film poster as it is low budget and aimed at a British audience, like our short film. The poster shows two images which is divided by a white banner with the film title and other bits of key information. It contains quotes from reviews and also the awards it has won . The poster has a colour scheme of blue, red and white which are the colours of the union jack, this links it to the name of the film. The poster has pictures of all the main cast, and through there costumes it sends a clear message to a british audience that the film is set in the 1980's when these fashion trends were popular, the main one we see is the skin heads(which is what the film story is about) and these have a reputation of being violent.

Sherlock Holmes had a large budget so more money will be spent on advertising so that the film will draw in a large audience and make a larger profit. Sherlock Holmes has the popular film stars in it which help to attract its audience. Other versions of the poster of the poster will have been made, which are aimed at different audiences attracted to different genres. This poster also has a colour scheme to it. The poster has mainly the same font for the main bits of texts.

Poster Research (By Olivia Davies)

'Shifty' was a small budget film as they were apart of the microwave scheme; the poster for 'Shifty' is simple and doesn't give too much information about the film however it uses the features of:

- Quotes from reviews, and star ratings to sell the film, the use of these help promote and 'big up' the film.

- Used bright, solid, yellow colour, this helps it stand out and aid the title of the film as it contrasts with the black, bold font.

- Image, big - shows the two main characters.

- Mention of actors, to establish and promote who is in the film.

- The black solid line which has been used to represent the 'i', somewhat splits the poster and the two characters, this suggests the difference between the two, and the different lives they have led and the how they have been apart for a while.

The poster, for 'Reign Over Me' is simple yet effective. The poster itself doesn't show too much about the details of the film; the film is a drama about a man who lost his family in the September 11 attack on New York City and runs into his old college roommate, this rekindling of friendship is the one thing that appears able to help the man recover from his grief.
The poster uses a vanishing point image which represents a dust covered NYC on the outer side of the two main characters, and then uses vibrant colours for the two main characters and the background behind them, this suggests the transition of the character going from his state of grieve.
The title and the names of the actors uses the same effect of the image, as they both use the colour scheme of having a black and white tone at the front and then colour at the end, (black and then blue).

'The Tracey Fragments' is a drama abo
ut a girl searching for her brother, In flashbacks and fragments,we see what leads up to her riding in the back of a city bus wrapped in a shower curtain, coming of age, or just surviving?

The image which is used, is very effective as it emphasizes the word 'fragment' as the image is edited to have the effect that fragments are coming off the character's dress, the fragments represents the flashbacks and past of the character.

The poster has the typical features of a poster;

- Film Festival award tags, and quotes

- Tag line

- Actress, director and music producer's name.

- Website

- Production Companies.

- Main Image, Unique selling point.
