Poster Idea (By Rebecca Henstock)

This is my poster idea for our film, I think its very eye catching. i decided to make it black and white as if i used alot of colour it wouldnt portray the film well as the film is not a happy film

I wanted to make my poster simple yet show the correct amount of infomation about the film for people to be curious to watch it. For example, writing a tagline under the title to give the audience a jist of what its about also by putting a quote from a newspaper and a magazine to attract the audience to watch it more if they think its "outstanding" and "draws you in straight away, its a must see"

I also looked at other posters for ideas how to set my poster out. Where i have put the cast names at the top i have used this from looking at a poster and i think it looks very effective on my poster and its not messy and keeps it neat and simple.

I created this poster on Photoshop. i took the image and it was already taken in black and white but i wanted to intencify it by increasing the contrast and brightness. I added the title on "uncherished" and chose my font i wanted to use, i chose zapfino font for my title as it looks very presentable. I then went on the internet and copy and pasted ,y 15 rated sign and put it in the bottom corner to show what rating our film i.

Poster Research (By Jordan Evans & Olivia Davies)

Firstly the poster must:

  • Raise awareness

  • Advertise the film itself & the genre

  • Attract a certain audience

What film posters have;

  • Film title

  • Main image

  • Tag line

  • Certificate

  • Release Date

  • Actors/ Actresses

  • Directors
  • Producers

  • Website

  • Movie awards

  • Reviews/ Star ratings

  • Production/Distribution/ funds company

Most of these things contribute to a good, eye catching film poster, they also make the poster informative to the audience, giving the audience enough information about the film to make them go and see it. Most of these film posters are mainly aimed at advertisement such as the images, reviews, tag lines and awards making people want to go and see the film.

From film poster research we found out that the colour scheme, layout, size and image of the poster is very important, as it determines the genre of the film. For example;

Horror/ Thriller - use a red and black colour scheme, big images, usually linking also to the genre by means of linking them to the film, like as you can see on the left, there is a screaming face for the 13 ghosts poster and again using the same idea there is a skull in the cabin fever one, although it doesn't stand out as much as the 13 ghosts one, its sort of playing to your subconscious, almost like you know its there but you choose to ignore it.

Comdey - uses bright solid colours on their posters, usually, red and blue.
- funny tag lines.
- big, bold font.
- amusing and over expressed expression on characters.
- relates to real life, so attracts people ( main image)

For some films, they make individual posters for individual characters. This appeals to the audience/ fans of the character to go and watch the film, and perhaps collect the posters.

My Poster Idea (By Olivia Davies)

My film poster idea, has been incorporated out of two images, which I have edited together using photoshop elements. I have made the image of the girl out of focused as then the audiences attention is brought to the first image - the pile of powder on a table, as this then brings attention to the film title. The effect of the images gives a sense of what the film is about as the girl has a 'dissapointed/ undecided/ upset' position.

The colour scheme of the poster is monotone, which uses a single neutral color such as black, light to medium grays, beiges, taupes, and off whites; this gives a feeling of a quiet quality to the film, also suggests the grayness and sadness of the drama in which the story tells.

The text I have used for the film title I have chose so it looks like it has a texture like the image of the powder. To make the text have more of a texture like the powder I incorpoarated an image of powder in the colouring of the text, unfortunately it is unnoticable and appears as it is a white solid colour. The film title is also inverted upwards, as if to the middle of the poster, this then makes the title look coherent with the pile of powder, and gives an effect of a shadow of the powder. I have used a cursive font for the tagline of the film as it suggests that it is about someone's life, also personal; I decided to place the text at the top of the poster to the left of the image ,as there is a blank open space which needed filling, but also that I didn't want the text over the main image of the girl, as the image itself would lose the attention of the audience.

For other advertising purporses and credit of the film, I have included logo's of Channel 4 and Film4 to show the association of the film; this also shows the audience in which channel they need to watch to be able to watch and have acess to the film.

The changes in which I think should be made to make the poster better, would be putting the tagline in a different colour, as it seems to blend into the image too much and becomes unoticed, however if I changed the colour to another solid colour, which was semi bright, then in my opinion it would contrast too much with the rest of the poster, as the only colour on the poster is from the Film4 logo.

Poster Research (By Jordan Evans)

This is my poster research for our film, as you can see i have chosen the Batman Dark Knight poster with the Joker character as the main image, i chose this image because this is the main poster where i gathered my ideas for my own. As you can see on the image the poster includes a main image of the chosen character this is the main focus point for the audience, and just above this is the tag line used in the film by this certain character. I like what they have done with the tag line in terms of the characters personality as it is wrote in blood and with a character name like joker you would think that he was a happy jolly character in the film, it also reflects in the question itself "why so serious" it is almost as if he is mocking his self in saying this. Also the smiley face that has been made in blood which is also a characteristic of the joker, this stands out a lot from the frosted glass that he is stood behind, this is how you know who it is and what the poster if for, it is sort of a selling point for the film. it also includes the name which is located at the bottom of the poster, which will be the last thing that the audience sees along with the release date, this sort of rounds the poster up as the audience is getting the most important information at the last minuet, making the audience look at the whole poster for information. i think i will include this sort of layout to my poster to make the audience study the poster in detail. It also includes in small print right at the bottom an website for the audience to look online and follow what the posters is selling, also at the bottom of the poster is some logos in both the right and left bottom corners, theres are placed there and slightly faded out, these will be the distributors and production company's, these are at the bottom of the poster mainly because that the audience is not looking for the information of production company's, but companies that are on the poster can be seen if anyone wants to look for them. This can also apply for a short film poster which will be aired on tv, they will include the channel logo smaller than anything else in the poster out of the way, rather than the main image, this is because the main image is the selling point of what you are wanting to advertise you you are wanting to make it bigger than everything else to get the desired effect across to the audience to make them watch and come and watch the film that you are advertising.

My poster Idea (By Jordan Evans)

This is my poster idea for the film, i think that it is simple yet eye catching to the audience, and i think that the target audience, that we set the film for would pick it up and have a look because it has an interesting cover, and it also includes reviews from 2 well known newspapers. I created this though two separate images on photo shop. We took this image of Beki henstock stood behind a frosted and wet bus stop glass and edited the colour and gave it a blur effect, i think it looks quite effective. I thought it would fit well with the feel of the film, if i took an image of a girl and put her so she looked like she was behind glass, i also got this idea from the most recent bat man film where the Joker is looking through a steamy window, i think its really dramatic and give a sad feel to the overall film. As you can see i have included a release date also two logos of which channels that the poster will be screened on, they are channel four and film four, after water shed. I decided not to put on a time that the film will be coming onto the tv as it is not at the release date yet and it will be advertised about the time when it comes closer to the date in September. The tag line is underneath the release date, i think that this should be further up, as the date draws attention away from the tag line as its small and should be located underneath the title of the film, so the audience can see it properly, where the tag line is now, that is where the small print should be if it was a film poster, things included such as production company's ect. i got the idea from the poster of Bad man which is shown below, as you can see there are some similar elements in the poster which i have decided to keep in, but the bad man poster puts across a sort of horror feel which i did not want to incorporate into my poster as the film we are doing is a Drama and it would not fit, so i decided to take the horror edge off the idea and i incorporated the rest into my own.
